Crypto.com to expand its MCO Visa card service to Canada

Leading cryptocurrency payments platform Crypto.com announced that it has received regulatory approval for its Visa card program in Canada, and will soon be rolling out MCO Visa cards in the country.

MCO Visa cards are prepaid cards that can be topped up with cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, and Crypto.com’s native MCO token.

The company said that citizens of Canada can now book their crypto cards through a three-minute customer onboarding process and ID verification on the Crypto.com App.

Digital Euro passed first successful test at the Bank of France

Per a May 20 announcement from Banque de France, France has become the first country to successfully trial a digital euro, operational on a blockchain.

This recent pilot of a securities issuance in exchange for a digital euro was based on software received following the bank’s March 27 call for applications. Per today’s announcement, the bank will spend the coming weeks running similar tests on other files received as part of the same initiative.

California Giant joins IBM Food Trust blockchain tracking system

U.S. berry producer California Giant Berry Farms joined the blockchain-based food tracking solution IBM Food Trust.

According to California Giant’s senior director of operations Thomas Taggart, the integration with IBM’s blockchain network will allow the firm and its partners to find ways to improve the efficiency of product transportation. Senior director of global food safety at Walmart, Tejas Bhatt, also praised the integration:

“This enables us to track food from farm to store and helps ensure it is fresh and safe when our customers buy it.”

According to company data website Owler, California Giant has an estimated annual revenue of $62.6 million and employs 103 people.

The biggest credit card issuer in Japan, JCB, has partnered with technology accelerator TECHFUND to build a sustainable transaction system on the blockchain.

According to a May 15 statement released by JCB, the partnership will utilize TECHFUND’s expertise on security token offerings (STOs) and staking to create a new platform for transactions. Also based in Tokyo, TECHFUND has a program called ACCEL BaaS (Blockchain as a Service) which aims to accelerate the adoption of blockchain technologies for startups and enterprises.
