I've been dealing with a criminal charge in Michigan for almost 3 and a half years. I just filed another motion to dismiss based on the State's clear violation of my right to a speedy trial (attached). And I have another pre-trial conference on Monday. But, get this, I have not yet received official notification. No court order has been mailed to me. I only know about this preceding because I looked it up on the court's records search two days ago. The order was issued last Friday (August 6). I still do not know what that order says because it isn't available in the records search, you have to request it and pay for it. So what, I'm expected to pay the clerk of the court to see my orders? And if I don't show, they can hold me in contempt? This is the same thing that happened before my last scheduled hearing last month. That time, having received no instruction that my hearing was to be conducted remotely, I drove to Michigan and went to court, only to find an empty courtroom. Ridiculous.
