The bar graph compares the percentage of students who are proficient in another language according to gender across six different countries.

Overall, the proportion of female students with an excellent command of a foreign language is higher in all countries except for Thailand, where the opposite holds true. Furthermore, among all countries in question, India is the country where the highest foreign language literacy is recorded among both males and females.

Regarding male students proficient in a foreign language, India and Romania show the highest figures, with 56% and 42% respectively. The figures for other countries like Vietnam, Russia and Thailand are lower, standing at around a third each. In contrast, China has by far the smallest share of male students with a good grasp of a foreign language, at about 15%.

As for female students, their figures also vary greatly across countries. Once again, India is reported to have a record high percentage of female students who excel in another language, at two-thirds, closely followed by Romania, at 63%. Similarly, the percentages of female students proficient in another language in other countries such as Vietnam and Russia are significant, with the former making up more than half and the latter two-fifths. China has the biggest gender disparity in terms of foreign language proficiency, where the proportion of female students is twice as much as that of males, at nearly a third. Finally, Thailand is the only country where the share of female students proficient in a foreign language is lowest, at just over a quarter.
