Captain Tom, as he became known in newspaper headlines and TV interviews, initially set out to raise about $1,250 for Britain's National Health Service NHS Charities Together. He reached his initial goal within about 24 hours, according to a post on his fundraising page April 10. A few days later, Moore had raised more than $1.25 million.
