This 3D-printed Mars habitat could be a home for future colonists.
AI SpaceFactory, a “multi-planetary architectural and technology design agency” in New York City, designed this egg-shaped habitat called “Marsha”. It was a winning design of the 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge held by NASA— a competition to create sustainable shelters suitable for the Moon, Mars, or beyond using resources available on-site in these locations.
Marsha is designed to be 3D-printed using a mixture of ground-up Martian rocks and plant-based polymer.
The habitats have four levels inside, connected by spiral staircases.
A ground-floor level would include a sealed hatch for entering and exiting the pod in space suits, as well as laboratories for astronauts to conduct tests and other work. Other levels would include a kitchen, a garden, a level for exercising and recreational activities, and four “sleepy pods” — private living quarters with a bed and desk.
