If confirmed, this will be the third provincial capital to fall in just three days (Shibirghan & Zaranj). Afghan forces have reportedly retreated to the city’s airport. 2021-08-05 02:53:28 Chatter on Twitter that Taliban “red units,” which are considered the militant group’s special forces, are being sent in large numbers to Herat, where heavy urban fighting continues against ANDSF backed by former Mujahideen militias. I’m anticipating a heavy Taliban assault coming soon. We all joke about their cheesy videos but the red units are well trained and willing to die so this will be troublesome for the remaining Afghan forces in the city. Open / Comment
