Apple's application of filters for blocking content in China has seeped into how it operates in Hong Kong and Taiwan, according to CitizenLab researchers.

According to research performed by CitizenLab, Apple's application of filters, which pertain to derogatory, racist, sexual, and sometimes political content, censor more than what is required.

The research looked at keyword filtering rules used by Apple to moderate content across China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, and the United States.

„Within mainland China, we found that Apple censors political content including broad references to Chinese leadership and China’s political system, names of dissidents and independent news organizations, and general terms relating to religions, democracy, and human rights.“ [...]
