Take a gander at Lake Berryessa, also known as “The Glory Hole | Awesome Science

Take a gander at Lake Berryessa, also known as “The Glory Hole,” located in Napa County, California. Lake Berryessa works similarly to the drain in a sink. When water reaches a certain level it spills into the drain to prevent overflow. After spilling into the hole, water takes a 200 foot drop into a narrowing pipe and runs hundreds of feet to the other side of the Monticello Dam. After that the water spills out into Putah Creek, where it eventually flows into the Yolo Bypass. This process is a rare occurrence as the Glory Hole has only been used about two dozen times since it was first built in the 1950s
