Because of its resemblance to the famous good ghost, this octo | Awesome Science

Because of its resemblance to the famous good ghost, this octopus was named Casper.

It was first discovered in February 2016. It is unique for several reasons:
- Casper moves at a depth of 4.3 kilometers, making it the deepest octopus known to science.
- The octopus spawns in water at 3°C and only hatches after four years. However, at the bottom of the Peru Basin, the temperature is only 1.5 °C. This led researchers to conclude that Casper eggs may take many years before they fully develop!
