criticized human rights violations in Nicaragua, specifically denouncing the situation of “political prisoners” in the country.
“
We cannot look away from the crisis that Haiti is experiencing, we cannot look away from political prisoners in Nicaragua,” said the leftist, during a speech in the Mexican Senate, on Thursday 24th.
The statements by the president of Chile contrast with the silence on the situation in Nicaragua by the also leftist Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The two met on Wednesday at the National Palace, in the
first official meeting between the two rulers.
