 FAITH

A Devotional for August 26, 2022
Faith comes from hearing
Romans 10:17

“When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.” When the wise men came to Jerusalem and told about the birth of the King of the Jews, King Herod was troubled. It is clear to anyone that this birth of the King of the Jews was good news primarily for the children of Israel and then for all the children of mankind. “Since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.” Hebrews 11: 40, the fathers and prophets of the faith have spoken this about the coming of the Messiah, and by listening to the word of the Lord and knowing that He has prepared something greater for us who believe in the Christ Jesus, our ears should be open to the word of God so our faith can increase.

The king was not disturbed alone but with all of the city of Jerusalem with him. Herod's threat came from being concerned about losing his kingdom in Judea and the Bible tells us that Jerusalem was disturbed with him. Mark 4:24 "Be careful what you hear." This means that if we are not careful about what we hear, we will be swayed away by it.

"Hearing is by the word of God" Romans 10: 17, faith can only be created by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Rhema). As we all know, it is the age of information. As a result, many people are suffering from fear, anxiety, and depression from all the information they are consuming. For faith to be formed in us, we need to hear not from social media, but from God's word, which is the word for the time (Rhema). For the word of God does not change!

These days the peace of a believer has become dependent on the information we are consuming, we are at “peace” when the world tells us all is good, and we are unsettled when the world speaks of chaos. If we are dependent on the information we are consuming for our peace, our peace will always be unstable.

As Proverbs 1:33 says, "He who listens to me will rest in peace, and rest from the fear of suffering." When we listen to what God speaks to us through his word and spirit, we become a reason for the stability of the city and the community around us. Therefore, grow in faith, by hearing the word of God.

Life Application
Knowing that our faith is related to the source from which we hear, let us choose to live in peace by choosing what we listen to, which is the word of God.

Prayer
God, I choose to grow my faith by hearing your word. And I choose to give time to your word. And for this give me your grace.
