Testimony by Pastor Zerubbabel

A Devotional for February 9, 2022
Ps.100; 1Thes.5:16-18
I have so many testimonies. My testimony actually begins with my father, who was healed of leukemia through an encounter with the Scriptures as a teenager. It’s safe to say I would not be here today if it was not for that! But of all of my experiences in God, there is one that has been most impactful for me.

My early days of ministry were tough. It seemed like God’s promises worked for everyone but me. I was faced with challenges on every side—from finance to family, from ministry to finance…did I mention finance? I could relate well with the words of David in Ps.73:3: “For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. They have no struggles…” They have no struggles?!? What?!?! This disparity became the chief subject of all my prayers.

One day I was watching Christian tv, and a pastor named Phil Munsey came on. He said, “The protocol for entering into His presence is not complaining or prayer requests. Psalm 100 tells us that we enter into His gates with thanksgiving…” I knew the Lord was speaking. I went upstairs to the bathroom, closed the door, and got on my knees. I put all my issues to the side and began to “enter in” with thanksgiving. Then something happened.

Almost immediately, I felt a wind blowing in my face, and the presence of God was so heavy and tangible all around me. For the next two months, I would come home every evening, go to the bathroom and get on my knees, and every evening He would visit me. I had known the Word of God my whole life, but in that season I came to know the God of the Word.

The testimonies I have experienced since then are many—too many to count. But what I learned on that day has been my guiding light: We don’t enter His gates with complaining. We enter His gates with thanksgiving. 1Thes.5:18 reminds us that we don’t give thanks for everything, but in everything; “for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Life Application
Regardless of your situation, start with thanksgiving.

Father, in everything I choose to give thanks. Amen
