Recently PM Narendra Modi inaugurated our new parliament.

Here are some interesting facts about the new parliament building:

1) designed by architect Bimal Patel.

2) The new building is triangular in shape, mostly because the plot of land that it is built on is a triangle. According to architect Bimal Patel, the shape is also a nod to the sacred geometry in different religions.

3) The new Parliament building has three storeys and a built-up area of 64,500 sqm.

4) The building has three ceremonial entrances on three sides for the President, the Vice-President, the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Prime Minister.

5) It is environment-friendly and Earthquake resistant.

6) The new Lok Sabha is approx 2 times the old Lok Sabha. It is inspired by the national bird Peacock.

7) The new Rajya Sabha is approx 1.5 times the old Rajya Sabha and it is inspired by our national flower- Lotus.

8) The new building has a Constitution Hall, where the journey of Indian democracy has been documented.

9) For the interior and exterior of the building, construction materials have been brought in from across the country, including sandstone from Sarmathura in Dholpur and granite from Lakha village in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

10) At all the entrances of the building, auspicious animals as guardian statues will be exhibited, based on their importance in Indian culture and vaastu shastra. These include the elephant, the horse, the eagle, the swan, and mythical creatures shardula and makara.
