British restaurant chain Bella Italia is testing robot waiters in the shape of cats, to address staff shortages in the hospitality industry
The robot knows how to move between tables and the kitchen, while staff or customers only have to load and unload trays: it makes up to 400 deliveries each day, has four shelves and can serve four tables simultaneously and even talk to guests in the process: "meow" to encourage them to take their plates. The BellaBot was created by the Chinese technology company Pudu.
The robots have an estimated price of $20,000 and that's much less than the cost of hiring a minimum-wage waiter for 40 hours a week.
