Startup has created an app that helps visually impaired people navigate public transportation

London-based Waymap has completed a closed two-week test of its app that compiles audio routes for people with visual impairments, TechCrunch reports. The tests were conducted at three subway stations in Washington, D.C., USA. Waymap plans to launch open testing in 25 subway stations and 1,000 bus stops by September.

Waymap CEO Tom Pei, who lost his sight at age 39, notes that a visually impaired person typically uses 2.5 routes regularly in his life. For example, he goes to the grocery store and to the pharmacy.
