PPP method for teaching

PPP teaching practice was developed the early 90’s as an “easy-going” instructional approach to Communicative Language Teaching. The acronym stands for Presentation, Practice and Production — each letter indicates a stage of the learning process.

PPP is also still broadly imparted to new ESL teachers, and perceived in different initial teacher training courses like the TEFL and TESOL. The three stages of a PPP:

Presentation — the teacher presents a new word or an event which includes the presentation of pronunciation and spelling in context.

Practice — the teacher consents the students to practice the new word in a skillful background by ensuring the learner has understood the vocabulary as well as usage appropriately. Here you may add Gap fill exercises, Pair work, Asking and answering questions, Sentence matching activities, and so on.

Production — there is a time of less-controlled exercise with an informal valuation of learning. Here you may use Discussion activities, Collaborative tasks, Communication tasks, Role-plays.

As long as you are clear on your objectives, PPP helps you to plan your EFL/ESL lesson in order to accomplish your aims. PPP is easy to learn for new teachers and is very flexible and also has a logical development too.
