On April 12, 1961, man was in space for the first time, Yuri Gagarin conducted the first human space flight. This historic moment paved the path for future space exploration. The United Nations designated April 12 as "International Day of Human Space Flight" in 2011 to commemorate the first human space flight and to promote the peaceful exploration and use of space for the benefit of humanity. However, in addition to the official commemorative date, there is also an informal holiday — Yuri’s Night also popularly known as The World Space Party. This day also celebrates all that humanity brings with us as we explore the cosmos — music, art, science, culture, and each other! The goal of the day is to use space to bring people from all over the world together, to empower the best parts of ourselves, and to provide a vision of where we are going.
