Yahshua Himself purposely rejected ritual cleansing is clear in the Gospel account, for instance at Mark 7:1-23, where it is explained that the Judaeans took the prescriptions of the law to extremes, and added also the “traditions of the elders.” When asked by the Pharisees “Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?” Yahshua is said to have responded “Well hath Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men, For laying aside the commandment of Yahweh, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.” (“washing” here is from the Greek verb βαπτίζω, “to baptize.”) Then Yahshua added: “Full well ye reject the commandment of Yahweh, that ye may keep your own tradition” ...
