Azess Ibrahim Oluwafemi.
Few years after graduating from university, like many in the industry I volunteer to be a site Engineer in a construction firm. No salaries or benefits but only site allowance N3,500 per week. The said allowance couldn't even cover for my transport fare and feeding, talk more of my upkeep.
One day, I met a friend on transit and he said how could whole me with my experience working for free? I laugh . He further said, "he would rather be sleeping at home than volunteer for free." I told him, I still need more experience. Besides, I never consider the job suffering or beneath me.
I focused on building myself. I learnt all was needed on the job and in 6 months, I enrolled for my MSc programme and had my first breakthrough. The rest they say is history.
These are challenges of many of our young graduates who have potential to run bigger task but no opportunities. Don't be shy to start small and learn across the process. Remember, success isn't lottery, it only happen to those who work hard and prepare for it. The dream is free, but the success is sold.
Don't let anyone ever suggest that the job or task is beyond your qualification or education. Don't stay idle. Ensure you put your best to anything you find doing. In the process of doing something, your commitment will discover and announce you. This is what will recommend you.
See, you will only find a better place if you demonstrate that you have the capacity for bigger responsibilities while at your current role.
Don't complain about where you are now. Open to the possibilities of learning from your experience and that of others. Ensure no one tell you otherwise. With this you will find better opportunities locate you.
