2022-02-18 15:59:57 U.S. Public Increasingly Anti-Mandate and Losing Faith in Govt. & Federal Measures but Gaining Faith in Each Other

@covidpositivenews:

Go U.S. citizens!

Back in Aug 2021, the Monmouth University Poll found most Americans (59%) believe agencies, such as the CDC, have been giving mixed messages about Covid risks.

In Oct 2021 a national telephone and online survey by Rasmussen reported nearly half of U.S. voters (49%) believe Dr. Anthony Fauci lied about U.S. funding for “gain-of-function” research, with 19% not sure, and 46% saying the government’s top Covid-19 expert should be forced to resign.

A later (Dec 2021) survey by Rasmussen reported more than half (54%) of U.S. voters are concerned that Covid-19 vaccines could have harmful side effects (including 27% who are "Very Concerned") and do not think the government should have the power to make vaccines mandatory.

The Jan 2022 Monmouth Uni Poll also found the majority of Americans do not support workplace vaccine mandates as a preventative measure.

7 in 10 Americans (70%) now agree with the sentiment that "it’s time we accept that Covid is here to stay and we just need to get on with our lives." Only one-third of the public (34%) feels the country can control Covid, and only 23% are "very concerned" about catching one of the new Covid variants. 37% of American adults say they are unlikely to ever get a booster shot, and 17% say they are opposed to getting the initial vaccination.

Fortune reports (Feb 7) that "pro-vaccine parents are suddenly skeptical when it comes to their young kids getting the jab."

"Parents who got the vaccine themselves, and were mortified by the politicization of vaccination as an issue, are grappling with hesitation around vaccinating their young children," Fortune continues.

"As far as my child goes, we just don’t know enough about the long term effects and I’m not willing to risk it on my child’s future health," says Jodi, a mother who runs a nail salon.

"The risk just doesn’t outweigh the benefits."

According to the Covid-19 Vaccine Monitor: January 2022 published Tue (Feb 1) by the Kaiser Family Foundation, 7 in 10 parents of children under 5 say they will not get their child vaccinated. Half of parents report being worried about their child becoming seriously sick from the coronavirus, including substantially higher shares among parents who are Black or Hispanic.

80% of parents say news of the Omicron variant will not cause them to vaccinate their children. 23% of parents say they are definitely not thinking about vaccinating their child between the ages of 12 and 17, and 40% say children have experienced Covid-related disruption at school.

The latest Axios/Ipsos Coronavirus Index poll (Feb 8) shows more American adults are questioning the severity of the pandemic.

One month ago (Jan), nearly two-thirds of Americans (63%) said attending in-person gatherings with people outside of their household presented a large or moderate risk. Now, 54% feel this way. Fewer parents also think it is a large or moderate risk to send their child to school or daycare (47% now, compared with 55% one month ago).

More are saying “less risk” has increased, while the number saying “more risk” has declined. Currently, 15% feel they have a greater risk of contracting the virus now. 2 in 3 (two-thirds) do not believe it is possible for the U.S. to eradicate the coronavirus, and a full 45% support federal, state, and local government lifting all Covid-19 restrictions.

Finally, the latest Monmouth Uni Poll (Feb 7) finds "... most couples continue to report no pandemic-induced change to their relationship, or improvement."

"... spending time together, whether it is going out or staying home. It can be easy to equate showing love with buying presents. But, for relationships to really flourish, what they actually need is more shared experiences,” says Dr. Gary Lewandowski, professor of psychology at Monmouth Uni.

2022-02-18 10:10:55 “Prepare for the End of Restrictions Soon”: Israel's Green Pass System Will Be Canceled to Maintain a Normal Sense of Life

@COVID19Up
: Israel’s Green Pass system will no longer be extended after March 1 when the current system is set to expire, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced on Thursday (Feb. 17).

“We were the first country to close its borders to Omicron, so it is now time to start lessening [the restrictions] gradually,” Bennett said at the start of a discussion on the future of COVID-19 restrictions in Israel. “As far as I’m concerned, we need to prepare for the end of the restrictions soon.”

The discussion focused on the steps Israel will take in order to maintain a normal sense of life.

While the Green Pass restrictions have been severely reduced over the last few weeks, they will now be removed entirely, although one aspect—the need to perform an antigen test at the entrance to nursing homes—will remain.

Ahead of the discussion, and following Wednesday’s announcement that restrictions at Ben-Gurion Airport would be largely reduced, Diaspora Minister Nachman Shai penned a letter to Bennett requesting that an urgent update be made to Israel’s current COVID-19 vaccination policy for tourists, which prevents many children from entering the country.

“Children over the age of one who do not have Israeli citizenship are required to prove vaccination and/or recovery in order to enter Israel,” he wrote. “This policy prevents families—both of Jews and non-Jews—from entering Israel with their children, since no vaccine is available worldwide for children under five. In preparation for Passover, I call on you to more fully open Israel’s gates and immediately allow for any family hoping to gather around the Seder table in Israel the opportunity to do so. We have the ability to establish a long-term framework that will allow entry into Israel while ensuring public health.”

2022-02-18 07:33:48 Danish Health Authority Debunks Eric Feigl-Ding’s Viral Tweet About Denmark's “Exponentially Surging” COVID-19 Death Data

@COVID19Up
: The Danish infectious disease agency State Serum Institute has tweeted several times in English in recent days in response to criticism of the country’s decision to lift COVID-19 restrictions, including by Eric Feigl-Ding, an American with over 600,000 followers on Twitter.

The State Serum Institute (SSI), the equivalent of the U.S. CDC, responded to Feigl-Ding, who in one viral tweet, accused the Danish government of “losing its frigging mind” and “gaslighting” the country’s population over its decision at the beginning of February to largely end COVID-19 restrictions.

“Dear Eric, once again we would like to stress that the numbers you are sharing with your followers shows (sic.) deaths with (Covid)-19. Not deaths because of (Covid)-19. We would recommend that you read our weekly report for more information on the subject,” SSI tweeted in response.

Feigl-Ding also claimed that COVID-19 deaths in Denmark were “exponentially surging” as a result of restrictions being lifted.

But an SSI chart was posted in response showing a distinction between deaths caused by COVID-19 and deaths “with” Covid-19 and not caused by it, based on death certificate information. The chart shows the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 to be stable.

2022-02-18 07:22:22 California Shifting Into"Endemic" Approach to COVID-19, but Pandemic Emergency Orders Will Not Be Lifted

@COVID19Up
: California Governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday (Feb. 17) announced a shift by the state to an “endemic” approach to COVID-19 that emphasizes prevention and quick reactions to outbreaks over mandates.

A disease reaches the endemic stage when the virus still exists in a community but becomes manageable as immunity builds. But there will be no definitive turn of the switch, Newsom said, unlike the case with Wednesday’s lifting of the state’s indoor masking requirements or an announcement coming February 28 of when precisely the school mask-wearing mandate will end.

However, there will be no immediate lifting of the dozens of remaining executive emergency orders since Newsom imposed the nation’s first statewide stay-home order in March 2020.

“This pandemic won’t have a defined end. There’s no finish line,” he said. His administration is now trying to craft “a plan that allows us to be prepared without being paranoid and more alert to what’s happening around us without being anxious.”

"It's time to focus on getting our children a good education and improving our schools, no matter how you feel about masks."

2022-02-18 05:23:10 New Mexico Abruptly Drops Indoor Mask Mandate

@COVID19Up
: New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced on Thursday (Feb. 17) that the state’s indoor mask mandate is ending immediately.

Grisham made the surprise announcement at a press conference covering the ending of the state’s 2022 legislative session. She did not give details surrounding her decision to end the indoor mask requirement, which covered all residents over the age of two.

“I’m announcing … that the mask requirement for indoor settings is gone,” Grisham said. “If you’re not vaccinated, I don’t know if its the best idea, but it is no longer an indoor setting requirement."

Several lawmakers in the same room cheered the decision while others let out audible exhales.

“I’m delighted not to be wearing a mask,” added the governor.

This marks a very sharp shift in mask mandate messaging for New Mexico.

2022-02-18 03:10:53 Arrests Begin in Ottawa as Police Warn Anti-Mandate Protesters of "Imminent" Action to Clear Them

@COVID19Up
: Police warned protesters occupying central Ottawa of "imminent" action to clear them from the capital and began making arrests on Thursday (Feb. 17) to end a crisis that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed was waving "swastikas" and threatening public safety.

Truckers opposing COVID-19 vaccine mandates have blocked roads in downtown Ottawa for nearly three weeks, the centrepiece of a movement that has inspired similar protests in other countries and temporarily shut border crossings with the United States.

Police were seen arresting several protesters on Thursday evening, including Chris Barber, one of their main fundraisers and organizers.

There was no immediate police comment.

The War on Words

Language naturally changes over time, but sometimes these changes aren’t organic, and when that happens it might be considered a war on words.

We’ve seen many things change over the last two years, from the way we interact with each other to how we spend our time. Some of these changes are impossible to ignore while others have been subtle and more difficult to pinpoint, such as a shift in the meaning of words and how those words are being used.

While they may appear subtle, these shifts matter. Unchecked, they can confuse, mislead, and even cause harm. That’s why it’s so crucial to be vigilant, identify these shifts, and take action.
