The federal government will implement a national campaign next week encouraging Canadians to receive booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, says Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos. “It’s like a phone battery … you recharge your phone battery by plugging into electricity, you recharge your vaccination protection by taking action and getting a booster,” Duclos said of the initiative dubbed “Protection Wanes, Action Is Required.” Duclos made the announcement on Sept. 1 during an update on Health Canada’s approval of a new COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna that targets both the original strain of the novel coronavirus and the specific Omicron variant, called bivalent vaccines....Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos speaks during question period in the House of Commons on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on May 6, 2022. Transport Department lawyers offered advice to airlines on how to reject Canadians’ requests for religious exemptions from COVID-19 vaccination requirements for travel, internal documents show. “These types of exemptions are anticipated to be granted very rarely,” said a November 2021 memo obtained by Blacklock’s Reporter through Access to Information records, along with several other transport documents. “It is not sufficient for the passenger to state they have a certain religious belief and they cannot be vaccinated,” said another memo. “They must explain how vaccination would conflict with their religious belief in a way that is not trivial or insubstantial, meaning being vaccinated conflicts with the genuine connection with the divine.”...People wait in line to check in at Pearson International Airport in Toronto on May 12, 2022.
