2021-08-30 08:07:59 Following the National Day Rally speech, there seems to be some confusion regarding the announcement that companies in Singapore will be required to pay local citizen/PR employees a minimum of S$1,400 per month.

Judging by public comments online, many people appear to be cheering it as an introduction of national minimum wage for all Singaporeans. This is incorrect.

It is about protecting Singaporean jobs - but in a bit different way. Here's a short explainer.

Kirsten Han apparently doesn't think that Chinese Singaporeans have made any concessions to build a peaceful, multiethnic country.

I think we can find a good example of how SG could have looked like if the majority did what majorities tend to do.

Just look at Malaysia: https://www.facebook.com/CriticalSpectator/posts/4150698101704552

2021-08-26 07:43:59 GIC breaking records last year. "With an average of about five deals totalling S$2 billion per month, GIC was the most active state-owned investor (SIO) in the world in 2020.

Global SWF calculated that GICs results have reached a record 37.5 per cent over the past year ending March 31st, outcompeting even the typically more aggressive Temasek which returned 24.5 per cent.

Their estimates also put the total figure of AUM at US$744 billion – or just over S$1 trillion, for the first time in GIC’s history."

2021-08-24 13:08:10 Just like with Hong Kong's financial services and wealthy residents flowing out of the city to Singapore, the same may - at least to some degree - happen with Taiwan. SG, along with South Korea and Japan, is one of the best locations for advanced semiconductor manufacturing in Asia.

It just needs to tackle two major challenges to make the most of the opportunity.

Would Malaysia stand a chance in a military conflict with Singapore? Probably not - and here's a visual comparison of where both nations stand:
