According to a report titled
'Stacked Odds', one in every 130
females globally is living in modern
slavery.
Modern Slavery
There is no universally accepted
definition of “modern slavery”
or “contemporary forms of
slavery.”. Essentially, it refers
to situations of exploitation that a person cannot refuse or
leave because of threats, violence, coercion, deception, or abuse of power.
Modern slavery takes many
forms such as
Human trafficking
Forced labour
Debt bondage/bonded labour
Descent–based slavery: People are treated as property, and their “slave” status was passed down the
parental line.
Slavery of children including child trafficking, child soldiers etc.
Forced and early marriage.
