Established in 2006 + HQ: New Delhi + under MoEF&CC
WCCB is a statutory body constituted under the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 (WPA 2006, Amendment).
Have five regional offices at Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai & Jabalpur.
Objective: to combat organized wildlife crime
Additional Director General (Wild Life) is the ex-officio director of the WCCB.
WCCB is the nodal point for SAWEN (South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network) in India.
WCCB has conducted: Operation Save Kurma, Thunder Bird, Wild-Net, Lesknow, Birbil, Clean Art etc.
It also assists & advises the Customs authorities in inspection of the consignments of flora & fauna as per the provisions of WPA, CITES & EXIM Policy.
UNEP has awarded WCCB with ‘Asia Environment Enforcement Awards’ in 2018.

2023-04-06 08:25:00 The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck paid an official visit to India.

The visit of the King of Bhutan is in keeping with the long standing tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries.

Both the countries remain in close coordination over all security matters

The bilateral talks covered the entire gamut of bilateral ties including issues of respective national interests.

It was agreed that India would step up its support to Bhutan’s upcoming 13th Five Year Plan.

At Bhutan’s request, India decided to extend an additional standby credit facility (SCF).

First ever rail link between India and Bhutan
India will try to expedite the proposed Kokrajhar-Gelephu rail link project.
When completed this would be the first ever rail link between India and Bhutan.

In the field of hydro-power
India has agreed to an upward revision of the tariff of the Chhukha hydro-electric project.
