Darktrace, a global cyber defense company, reports that 30% more ransomware attacks take place during the winter holidays when the security teams are out of the office. The hot period falls between November and December During this time, the researchers observed a 70% increase in attacks when compared to the January-February period

The weakest link in the chain is often employees’ email Once criminals get access to login details, they start looking for ways to break into the corporate network. If their effort yields the expected result, the attackers encrypt data on the network and demand a ransom for the decryption key

It is estimated that the damage caused by ransomware will cost businesses $20B by the end of 2021
