More and more people are migrating to cities in search of a better life, but city life can be extremely difficult. Explain some of the difficulties of living in a city. How can governments make urban life better for everyone? With cities offering more opportunities, people are flocking to these places, hoping to enjoy a higher standard of life. However, the life in urban areas might be quite tough because of pollution and housing. To tackle these issues, governments should take a couple of practical measures.
The main problem of living in cities might be pollution, such as: air, water and noise pollution. In addition to bringing about noise pollution, huge volumes of traffic flow also emit exhaust fumes into the air, making it polluted and large amounts of household and industrial garbage which have not been treated contribute to air and water contamination. The three combined usually have an adverse effect on residents’ health, which means people may have weak lungs and diseases related to respiratory systems. High housing prices could be another concern. Since there is a shortage of homes for sale in metropolises, home buyers will often have to settle on a higher price than they might be able to afford if there were more properties available. When demand outpaces supply, sellers can charge whatever they want and find someone who's willing to buy it from them.
Having said that, there are some workable actions that governments could implement to tackle these problems. One effective remedy is to ban vehicles from city centers on certain days of the week and promote the use of cleaner transport, like e-cars, which would help to reduce air and noise pollution. As for domestic and industrial waste, governments should introduce anti-pollution laws and force residents and companies to recycle and dispose their waste, by using environmentally friendly ways. To address the issue of housing, revitalization of neighborhoods ought to be performed. This signifies that urban planners should look for derelict and abandoned properties to buy and convert into affordable housing. Renovating these spaces is a preventative step against developers building housing that’s not affordable for long-term residents.
In conclusion, major worries confronting cities often include pollution and sky-high housing costs, and governments could implement some effective steps to enhance the quality of life for all city dwellers.
