In the spring of 1933, 3,000 Gulag prisoners (some of whom died en route) were landed on Nazinsky Island in Siberia, a narrow, flooded strip of land in the middle of the Ob River. They had no tools or tents, only a few handfuls of rye flour every four or five days. The prisoners did not have the strength or ability to set up a life and to carry out the task of building a settlement from scratch. Some were so exhausted that when they went to bed too close to the fire, they burned to death in their sleep. Those who tried to escape were shot on the spot by the guards.

Soon cannibalism began on the island. Women were the first to suffer: many of them were tied to trees to make it easier to cut the meat off their breasts, thighs, and other body parts.

Many of these "settlers" were sent to the island because they could not produce documents during the inspection. By summer, only 2,200 of the 6,700 remained alive - with only 300 of them fit for work.

In 1895, two cars collided in Ohio. The strange thing about this accident is that in those years the automobile industry was just gaining momentum and there were only two cars in the entire state of Ohio.

A sailor survived on a raft in the ocean for 133 days without water or food supplies

In 1942 a German submarine sank a British merchant ship. A Chinese sailor serving on it managed to jump overboard in his vest and then found a loose raft in the water. The raft's small supply of water and cookies quickly ran out. The sailor, drifting on the raft across the Atlantic Ocean, collected rainwater and ate raw fish, which he caught with a makeshift fishing rod, and once he managed to catch a seagull and suck the blood out of it. So he swam for 133 days until the raft washed up on the Brazilian coast.
