2022-06-03 23:14:54 Data Science best practices

Hi everyone,

I will be getting a new machine in a few days. I was wondering what you would consider best practices for a data science Python workflow / environment. I am working on transitioning from a technical data analyst to data scientist and want to start off correctly on this new (windows) machine. I am the only person on my team that uses Python so I do not know what is considered best practices in 'Industry' if you will.

To elaborate using the system Python install, Anaconda, Conda, Docker as well as anything else you would suggest.

Thank you ahead of time!

2022-06-03 21:14:43 Datasets for Current Rent Prices In The United States

Hey everyone, does anyone know where I can get datasets for residential housing in the United States? I’m mainly looking for large datasets displaying rent prices, mainly 1bdr and 2bdr condos. I plan on building a model to determine accurate average rent per state as well as various other trends, and feel like looking at this type of data would help significantly. Initially, I tried to scrape Zillow with Selenium but I’m not too proficient in web scraping/coding so I was looking for alternatives. Anything helps!

2022-06-03 19:14:55 D class imbalance: over/under sampling and class reweight

If there's unbalanced datasets, what's the way to proceed?

The canonical answer seems to be over/under sampling and class reweighting (is there anything more?), but have these things really worked in practice for you?

What's the actual experience and practical suggestion? When to use one over the other?

2022-06-03 15:14:55 [P] Hands on diffusion models

A minimal example of the forward and reverse flow of diffusion models with equations from the paper and visualizations alongside the code: https://github.com/InFoCusp/diffusion_models
I coded it up since I wanted to familiarize myself with rhe end to end flow. It uses a simple 2d dataset that can train within minutes. Hope others on this subreddit find it useful.
