disruptive coloration, and it is thought that stripes break up the outline of the animal's body and make it harder for predators to see them.
Another theory is that stripes may help regulate
body temperature Black stripes absorb more heat than white stripes, which may help the animal stay cool in hot environments. Stripes may also help with
social signaling and identification, as each individual animal has a unique stripe pattern. Finally, stripes may help to
deter biting insects. as some research suggests that insects are less likely to land on striped surfaces.
