I am sorry. I wanted to share my answer given by a student from Karshi about why there are more 7s or 8s in Tashkent. After that post, several other people messaged me saying they wondering about the same question.
So it is worth addressing the question then. My take on this is quite cynical, to be honest. So take what I say with a grain of salt.
I think the person who is asking this question probably doesn't have any clue as to how many education centers there are in Tashkent. Well, the number is HUGE. They are mushrooming all over Tashkent. Other cities, on the other hand, are not home to as many education centers as Tashkent, where obviously thousands of students are preparing to take IELTS. Needless to say, the more students are taking the test from a certain place, the higher the likelihood of students who score high on IELTS. In effect, even students who once took the test after preparing in their hometown come to Tashkent to prepare again. I have many students who come from different parts of Uzbekistan only to prepare for IELTS. So I assume there is a common idea that education centers in Tashkent prepare for IELTS better, which obviously is not the case.
So one reason why there are more students scoring 7 or above is that many more students are studying IELTS here. As simple as that.
The second reason has to do with marketing. I honestly don't like the word because most people's general understanding of the concept reduces it to a very simplistic definition of it. When they see an ad promising a high score, say 7, in three months, they say along the lines "don't believe it is marketing". I think these words uttered by most people go to show that these people do not have any idea about what marketing is. I mean you have to be an imbecile to believe that with your zero English, you get a 6 or 7 in as little as 6 months.
Instead, I would like to emphasize the lack of integrity on the parts of many education centers. They only share the results of students who have scored 7 or higher when in fact there are many more students who have fallen short of scoring the score they needed. I am not saying that I am not guilty. But this distorts the reality so much so that people think that within a short span of time it is possible to achieve a certain high score in that education center only. I mean the words in their ads convey this message. Look at any education center's Instagram profile and listen to their entrepreneur CEOs say that they have as many as three or four thousand students studying in their different branches. Let's assume on a certain day, they share five or seven results on a given Friday. Then you need to ask a couple of questions.
How many times have these students taken IELTS before? I mean I have seen a very popular IELTS teacher proudly take a picture with a student of his who has scored 7.5, when in fact the same student had scored 7.5 in his previous attempt. After studying in his education center for four months, he scored a 7.5 again. Is this a cause for celebration. I doubt it is. Why take a picture and say my student got a 7.5 when the sole propose of coming to your education center was to increase his score to a higher band. Usually those who score 8 are the students who either had a 7 or 7.5 before. So I think that the role of education center and teacher for that matter is very minimal. No need to pose for a picture.
And there are some education centers that make grandiose clips or celebrations after one of their students scores 8 or 8.5. When you do a bit of digging, you find out that that student went there to study because the ed center gives a money prize or some other financial incentive. For example, the other day my brother's 18 year-old coursemate got a 8.5 and I am waiting her certificate to be shared by some education center even if she didn't study there or went there because she wanted to have some fun. So please your common sense and judgement when you see an ad online.
