Everyone encourages to write simply. How do I then score a 9 for LR and GRA?
You should show off your vocabulary and grammar by
answering the topic I know that sounds almost tautological but that’s what distinguishes the higher-level bands from one another. A band 9 can present directly-relevant ideas using precise, sophisticated vocabulary. Compare
“They now utilize a drip irrigation system, which is more water-efficient thus increasing their profit margins.”
“They now utilize a system where water is distributed in droplets. That means they use less water so their bills are lower. It, in turn, enables them to turn a higher profit.”
Both approaches are fine but the first is a firm 8.5 while the second is a 7/7.5. The second one, crucially, means you use more words to explain the same idea, which deprives you of the space and time to go into greater width or depth. There is no magic bullet that equips you with an ability to do it. Practice is one way, sure, but it’s something that’s gradually acquired through doing a lot of
READING: through
READING, you expand your lexis, and that is key to being able to write more precisely.
