2023-01-20 06:48:10 Tata Motors (TTMT IN, BUY, TP: INR520) is reportedly in talks with global investors to raise USD500-USD600m for its India EV business. According to the Economic Times, the company is seeking a 15-20% premium from its last funding round, valuing its EV subsidiary, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility at cUSD10.9b. This follows a USD1b funding round in 2021 with TPG's Rise Climate Fund and Abu Dhabi's ADQ. As per the article, Tata is currently in preliminary discussions with several high-profile investors, impact funds, sovereign wealth funds, and Canadian pension funds for the funding.

If true, this is positive for the company and helps increase the confidence on valuations for TTMT's India EV business. EV stocks have corrected significantly over the last year and if TTMT could receive funding at a higher valuation versus its previous fund raise, it could provide strength to the stock in the short term.

2023-01-19 08:53:05 + steel: Nippon Steel increased HRC prices to USD750/t for March shipment; door open for further domestic hikes

As per Steelmint, Japanese producer, Nippon Steel, has raised HRC prices to USD750/t for early March shipment. This indicates improvement in demand. As of now, imports from South Korea are coming at USD690/t at Indian port and domestic prices are at parity.

With rise in prices from Japanese producer, there exist a possibility of further rise in prices post lunar holidays in China and thereby in India.

Domestic demand is firm amid seasonality. As per calculation, there is a room to increase prices by upto INR4,000/t by domestic producers in Feb/March (assuming global price sustains) which will more than offset the higher RM cost. This may not lead to any cuts in our FY23/24 est. Retain our mid term positive view on metals
