The recent opinion of Pauline Cullen towards Mindset series was somehow viral among IELTS students. In short she believes that Mindset cannot be seen as a reliable source as it has been written by IELTS examiners. It is true that the authors of Mindset are experienced IELTS teachers and the book has some defects in it. However, it would be wrong to assume that makes the book obsolete. I believe that we should accept the fact that even the reliable resources can have their disadvantages. A clear example of the case can be seen in Official Guide to IELTS. It is not hard to tell that the balance of difficulty in both reading and listening has been lost. As a result, Listening tests are far easier while opposite is true for Readings.

In my experience both Mindset and Official guide were helpful to my students, and we should not forget that both were accepted by Cambridge Press, so keep your focus up and carry on with your preparation!
