Breastfeeding can contribute to the yearly saving of more than 8,00,000 lives

The World Health Organization advises breastfeeding exclusively for the first six months of life, then continuing with the addition of supplemental foods for up to two years beyond that. Additionally, early and continuous skin-to-skin contact, rooming in, and kangaroo mother care are all advised by the WHO since they greatly increase infant survival and lower morbidity.

This significant nutrition intervention will support the government’s efforts to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and break the cycle of malnutrition. WHO estimates that boosting breastfeeding to nearly international levels will contribute to the yearly saving of more than 8,00,000 lives, the majority of whom are infants under the age of six.
