The attestation of the Etruscan word for god, "ais" (later "eis"), which in the plural is "aisar", points to the Etruscan people as having worshipped the Æsir of the Germanic folk religion.
Among other examples there is a striking resemblance between the name of the Etruscan deity Tivr, the god of the moon, and that of the Norse Týr (Proto-Germanic *Tiwaz), and the Etruscan deity Nethuns, god of the waters, with the Germanic deity Nerthus.
We can conclude that even the Etruscans, an indigenous people of the Northern part of the Italian paeninsula, practised the worship of the Æsir, at least similarly as we know it from the Norse lore.
