• Manchester United have made their worst start to a season for 37 years, losing four of their opening six games in all competitions for the first time since 1986.

• They have lost their opening two away league fixtures for the first time since 1973-74, a season which ended in their relegation from the top flight.

• The Red Devils have lost 18 of their past 35 away matches in all competitions, winning 13 and drawing four.
However, United have won 17 of their previous 24 top-flight fixtures against newly promoted opponents, including the past eight in a row.

• Erik ten Hag's side have conceded 14 goals in all competitions this season, more than any other Premier League side.

• They have let in three or more goals in three successive games for the first time since December 1978.

• Marcus Rashford registered nine shots against Brighton last weekend, the most in the top flight by a United player without scoring since Zlatan Ibrahimovic attempted 12 against Burnley in October 2016. Open / Comment

| Burnley returned to the Premier League with flying colours after an emphatic, 101-point Championship-winning campaign last term. Vincent Kompany has transformed a defensive-minded side into an attacking, front-footed outfit. Things haven’t got off to the best start as they look to adapt to the Premier League, coming into the weekend in 19th with only the single point - from a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest, who they also beat in the Carabao Cup, last time out. Defeats did come against tricky customers in Manchester City, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

| United actually faced Burnley last term en-route to League Cup success, winning 2-0 in their first game post-World Cup courtesy of goals from Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford. United were held to a 1-1 draw in their last away meeting with Burnley in early 2022, having won the home fixture 3-1 in the 2021/22 campaign.

| Burnley’s squad does lack some firepower, but the venture to Turf Moor can be a very tough trip to make. It is essential that United start quickly again, but for a change they really need capitalise on this so that they are not left to, once again, rue missing opportunities. The football recently has not been atrocious for periods of matches, but the defensive disarray and failure to execute the defensive basics really needs to be rectified - starting today.
