2021-06-16 11:41:38 WHAT IS A COLLOCATION?

A collocation is a pair or group of two or more words that are often used together by native speakers.

Here are some simple examples:

We say:
Blond hair - Yellow hair
Make mistakes - Do mistakes
Heavy rain - Strong rain
A fast car - A quick car

When we make mistakes with collocations, the listeners will usually understand us but our English won't sound natural because it's different from how a native speaker would talk. Therefore, if you want your English to sound natural like native speakers, you have to make efforts to learn collocations since they are difficult to guess.
