Today we celebrate UN English Language Day. A day of recognition of the importance of the English language. The 23rd of April was chosen by the United Nations in 2010 for its cultural significance, highlighting St George's Day and coinciding with the death of William Shakespeare, widely accepted as the greatest writer in the English language.
He is credited with the invention or introduction of over 1,700 words that are still used in English today.
