FRENCH EASTER CHOCOLATE : "The nigger head" As in many Christian countries, French children celebrate Easter by looking for chocolates in the gardens.
Adults, on the other hand, often eat more refined chocolates and even pastries.
One of the most famous, but also most decried, chocolates is the "
Tête-de-Nègre", a very old milk chocolate.
This chocolate is regularly controversial, and for good reason: the name "
Tête-de-Nègre", literally means "Nigger Head" because the shape of the chocolate can make think of the skull of a black man.
So the French literally eat "nigger heads".
Nevertheless, this chocolate of French-Belgian origin remains an important marker of identity, and a
délice appreciated by all since it is now eaten in most European countries and in North America.
