At least eight missing after building collapses in Marseille
Five people were injured and at least eight others are missing after an explosion caused an apartment building to collapse in Marseille on Sunday.
As many as 200 people were evacuated from the area after the explosion which reportedly occurred just after midnight. The building collapsed a few hours later.
Police believe there could be as many as 10 people trapped under the rubble who are not responding to calls, according to local media reports.
A fire broke out after the explosion and was eventually extinguished after several hours. Over 100 firefighters are reported to have been dispatched to quell the blaze.
The exact cause of the explosion remains unknown, although authorities point to a possible gas leak as the most probable explanation.
