WHY some countries use toilet paper instead of water
There can be different reasons but let's see two main and widely accepted reasons.The first one is the cold climate. There are countries like Canada where there is cold for a very long period. And in past, there wasn't a hot water system.So cleaning your lower gate(bum) could be a quite difficult task with cold water that's why a majority of houses used toilet paper instead. Although now technology is more advanced, they can use hot water but toilet paper is culturally accepted so it's still in use.
The second reason can be water scarcity. Let's take the example of South Africa. Major cities in South Africa are suffering water shortages.They hardly manage water to drink and you expect them to use it to clean their lower gate(bum). Hence to minimise wastage of water, they prefer toilet paper.
