The UK’s Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority confirmed the birth of UK’s first babies created using an experimental technique combining DNA from three people.
The technique is aimed at preventing rare genetic diseases being passed onto the children from their parents. The treatment is called mitochondrial donation, which takes genetic material from an egg or embryo of a woman with faulty mitochondria and transfers it to a donor egg or embryo that has healthy mitochondria.
