Simple truth: Elijah was a man with passions like ours, and h | The Faith Of the Fathers

Simple truth:

Elijah was a man with passions like ours, and he prayed and prayed that it might not rain—and it did not rain for three years and sick months. Then he prayed again, the sky gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

-James 5:17-18

What have you prayed for? What haven’t you prayed for? I have come to realize that God pays attention to our prayers more than we do! God gave us power and authority and He wants us to use it. He is listening to our prayers, even if we don’t give them much thought.

If you pay attention to your prayers from the past, you will begin to see that God responded to them, including sideways words and agreements that were made flippantly. God has great respect for the free will that He grants us. When God gave us power, it was not merely symbolic.

Many times, we place the responsibility for initiative or action back on God when God has clearly commissioned us to act in His name.

Imagine a young man with a new driver’s license. His dad has taken him to Driver Ed for the past couple months and he finally passed all the tests. One day, this young man’s father arrives with the keys to a brand new car and hands the keys to his son. The son responds, “Thanks Dad! Can you drive me to the store?”

This is similar to the way we talk to God the Father. God has given us power and authority to cast out demons and heal the sick and to feed multitudes of people, but when a crisis comes, we often panic and act as if we have no resources. We don’t give what we have or ask for wisdom and power and attempt to solve the problem.
Instead, we say “woe is me,” and blame God for failing us or failing to act. This is not how it is meant to be.

“When a righteous person prays, that prayer carries great power.” James 5:16

Our nature is not different than Elijah’s. He prayed that it would not rain and it didn’t. Then he prayed that it would rain, and it did.

Christ in you is the solution. Become the conduit of His power.
So, help us God.
