South Africa has recorded fewer severe cases in the Omicron wave of coronavirus infections compared with earlier in the pandemic, according to the latest data, although the health minister said it's still too early to determine severity.
The EU is to place sanctions on the Russian mercenary group Wagner in response to its alleged human rights abuses in Ukraine, Syria and Libya, including a ban on travel to the EU and a freeze on any assets held within the bloc.
