Their realism and detail is striking. Nowadays, such fine work is possible thanks to a 3d printer and a CNC machine.
But how did they do it in the 18th century and why didn't they learn? There are a lot of sculptures like this around the world, and they are not unique to that era.
But in the textbooks it's the same as usual - a chisel and a hammer and 7 years of work
