These photos are from the Aqua Virgo Aqueduct, which Marcus Agrippa built and commissioned in 19 B.C. It is the only Roman aqueduct that has operated almost continuously to this day, holding 1201 liters of water per second, for 2039 years.
Appreciate the condition of the Roman concrete - as if it had been laid yesterday. It is incredible that concrete could survive for thousands of years. Can modern concrete be compared to ancient mortar? Looking at these techniques, one wonders if the ancient builders were more primitive than we are.
