M. Bodran's Encyclopedia of Geography describes emporia, the large, commercial industrial cities. There is a list called "Famous Emporia of the Present Time," i.e., the end of the 17th century.
Of the Russian cities on the list are Arkhangelsk, Astrakhan, Moscow, and Novgorod. All of them belong to "Muscovy". Mention is made of Lvov - "Red Russia" and Feodosia - Tauris (Crimea). The mother of Russian cities, Kiev, for some reason was not included in this list at all.
It is noteworthy that France is not mentioned at all, but Gaul is mentioned instead (despite the fact that Gaul was finally annexed to the Roman Empire back in 486, when it ceased to exist). The city of Lutetia (aka Parisius, aka Paris) is named as the capital of Gaul. Constantinople is attributed to Thrace.
The surprise for lovers of geography was as big as the catch for the official history.
