The gallbladder serves as a reservoir for bile while it's not being used for digestion. An excess of cholesterol, bilirubin, or bile salts can cause gallstones to form - those are the yellow stones seen inside this gallbladder. Gallstones are generally small, hard deposits inside the gallbladder that are formed when stored bile crystallizes. This can cause intense pain, and may require surgery to remove the gallbladder entirely - as seen here.
