Is monosodium glutamate harmful?

Sodium glutamate is essentially a salt formed by a metal and part of an acid. Its peculiarity is that it has a taste of "saturation" (Umami)
Glutamate does not cause any harm to human health. It is perceived by the body as an amino acid and digested in the same way. BUT just like salt, the additive can be harmful in large quantities.
