What are platelets and why are they needed?

Platelets are cells that help blood clot. If a person is injured, the number of platelets increases, and a clot - thrombus forms in the place of a scratch or cut. In this way, the body protects itself from blood loss.

In a general blood test, the condition of such cells is usually assessed by the number of platelets (RLT). This parameter indicates their total number in the blood sample.
